Here at Maison Tess. HQ, we know the secret to getting a good night’s sleep starts way before your head even hits the pillow.

It begins when you take a few moments to unwind, relax, and indulge in some self-care before slipping under the covers. Whether you have a 12-step skincare routine or enjoy a warm cup of sleepy time tea, your nighttime routine plays a huge role in the quality of your sleep.

Here’s how we at Maison Tess like to settle down and unwind before getting some shut eye.

Laura, Founder & CEO

Bedtime: 10 PM

I wish I had a really fun nighttime routine to share, but the truth is when 10 PM hits I am completely knocked out! Three kids, a full-time job, lots of exercise, and a full social life leaves me ready for a good night's sleep every night.

Whenever I do take the time to have a nighttime routine, it would be to remove my mascara with some La Roche-Posay Micellar Water, moisturize my hands with L'occitane Hand Cream, and my lips with Uriage Lip Balm.

The upside of this very basic nighttime regime that makes me sound quite boring is that I get a full night's sleep, and I am up every day at 5:45 AM with a really fun morning routine that I will save for the next journal entry… ;)

I like the all-white bedding look so I usually go with a luxe cotton set and I use the waffle blanket as a throw at the edge of my bed for some elegant layering.

Bed time: 11:00 PM (Gotta have at least 8 hours!)

I am NOT a morning person so I typically shower in the evening and blowdry my hair right before bed so it’s one less thing to manage when I wake up.

In the shower, I like to double cleanse my face and wash away the day. I use Farmacy's Green Clean Cleansing Balm and Kiehl's Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal Cleanser. I exfoliate a couple of times a week with Origins Polishing Exfoliator.

I wash my hair with Olaplex shampoo and conditioner and use whatever body wash I’ve got on hand.

After my shower, I like to slather on my favourite body cream from Sol de Janeiro or apply self-tanner from Tan Luxe (sunless tans are the safest tans!).

For the rest of my skincare regime, I’ll use Glow Recipe's Plum Plump™ Hyaluronic Acid Serum and one of my many moisturizers in rotation (currently First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Cream or Farmacy's Daily Greens Gel Moisturizer) and my LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask so that I wake up looking hydrated and glowy.

I’m a hot sleeper so I love our Percale cotton sheets in Whisper White. I make sure the A/C is set to a cool 18ºC and my blackout curtains are properly in place before sliding on my eye mask and laying down for the night.

Bedtime: 10 PM

My routine starts throughout the day to keep my mind and body balanced with an intense workout, about 3-4 times a week. I’m usually in bed around 9 PM either watching some Netflix or reading a chapter of a book until 10 PM. I wake up early every day at 6:00 AM.

Every day I need to moisturize my body and face with Korean beauty products.

I’m allergic to dust so my bedding must be cotton - I love our Percale Cotton collection and Stonewashed Cotton Quilt.

Bedtime: 9.30 PM

For me, the key is to start my routine at least an hour or two before actually going to bed. I like the idea of taking my time at night. I tend to go to bed around 9.30 PM to get a good night's sleep.

At around 7.30 PM, I'll start with a long hot shower, and cleanse my face with Youth to The People Kale + Green Tea Spinach Cleanser. I follow up with the rest of my skincare routine then I enjoy a bit of reading, usually around 20 pages with a lit candle. I currently like our Tess. no. 1 Linseed Flower candle.

Right before actually going to sleep, I use the app Calm to stretch and meditate a bit. I started to meditate seriously during the pandemic and it has really helped with my sleeping.
Then it's light's off!

Bedtime: 11:00 pm

My night routine is as versatile as I am but I cannot go without these essentials.

First and foremost, I put my favourite playlist on and then I start washing my face. Then I use my daily exfoliant from Dermatologica. Twice a week I apply a mask.

When my face is fresh and clean, I apply a toner plus a BHA/AHA serum from the Glow recipe and my moisturizing cream from Avène which I can alternate with my sleeping mask from Laneige.

I wash my body with a gentle soap or shower gel and I like to finish with my coconut exfoliant. If I want my afro to have very defined curls for the day after, I have to brush my hair with my favorite mango conditioner and a touch of shea butter. I braid it and wrap it for the night.

I am ready to slay in my most comfortable pyjamas. Even if I am a hot sleeper I need to add a Stonewashed Cotton Blanket to my Percale cotton flat sheet during the warm season.
